Phil Smith, CPA, Senior Revenue Auditor; and Steve
Bowhey, CPA, Revenue Auditor of the Washington State
Department of Revenue |
|
Summary: |
On July 1, 2008, Washington will change the way
retailers who deliver goods to Washington state
customers collect local sales tax. This
presentation will discuss the destination-based
sales tax and how it will affect business. The
legislation signed by Governor Gregoire allows
Washington to petition for membership in the
national Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement (SSUTA).
It is an important step toward encouraging
out-of-state sellers to collect sales tax on sales
to Washington customers. In this way, SSUTA helps
level the playing field for Washington’s “brick and
mortar” businesses. |
